Overview

This program is designed for people who have work rights in Australia, are actively seeking employment, and want practical support to navigate the Australian job market. It is particularly suited to individuals who have moved from overseas with skills and experience, but need support to translate these into real opportunities and close the gap between where they are now and where they want to be.

Throughout the program, participants build the knowledge, confidence, and tools needed to move forward. This includes preparing Australian-style resumes and job applications, building confidence for interviews, learning how to search and apply for jobs effectively, understanding workplace communication and expectations, exploring volunteering and training pathways, and creating a personalised job plan.

Weekly Topics

  • Week 1

    Getting started with clarity and confidence

    In the first week, participants are welcomed into a supportive learning environment and introduced to the program structure. We focus on understanding each person’s goals, strengths, and starting point.

    Participants will:

    - Set personal goals and identify what they want to achieve

    - Complete a simple LLND (Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital) check to tailor support

    - Begin setting up digital profiles and tools used throughout the program

    - Build confidence in a safe, inclusive group setting

  • Week 2

    Recognising your experience and strengths

    This week focuses on helping participants understand and value their existing skills, including experience gained overseas.

    Participants will:

    - Identify transferable skills from previous work, study, and life experience

    - Map your experience to Australian job roles and expectations

    - Begin collecting evidence for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or other pathways

    - Gain clarity on possible career directions

  • Week 3

    Creating strong job applications

    Participants learn how to present themselves effectively in the Australian job market.

    Participants will:

    - Develop an Australian-style resume tailored to their goals

    - Learn how to write clear and effective cover letters

    - Understand how to showcase skills and experience

    - Begin building a simple portfolio (if relevant)

  • Week 4

    Finding opportunities and building connections

    This week focuses on practical strategies for finding work and connecting with employers.

    Participants will:

    - Learn how to use job platforms such as SEEK and LinkedIn

    - Understand how to search for roles effectively

    - Explore networking strategies and how to approach employers

    - Build confidence using online tools and job systems

  • Week 5

    Building confidence to communicate and succeed

    Participants develop the skills needed to communicate effectively in job interviews and workplace settings.

    Participants will:

    - Practice common interview questions in a supportive environment

    - Receive constructive feedback to improve performance

    - Learn about Australian workplace expectations and communication styles

    - Build confidence speaking about their skills and experience

  • Week 6

    Creating pathways through experience

    This week introduces participants to local opportunities that can help build experience and networks.

    Participants will:

    - Hear from local organisations and community groups

    - Learn how volunteering can support employment pathways

    - Explore short-term placements or experience opportunities

    - Develop a plan to gain relevant local experience

  • Week 7

    Building practical, job-ready skills

    Participants are introduced to short, targeted training options that can strengthen their employability.

    Participants will:

    - Explore micro-skills such as digital literacy, customer service, and workplace communication

    - Identify training pathways aligned to their goals

    - Understand how short courses and certifications can support employment

    - Begin planning next steps for further learning

  • Week 8

    Taking the next step with confidence

    The final week focuses on bringing everything together and preparing participants for real opportunities.

    Participants will:

    - Finalise a personalised job or pathway plan

    - Complete and submit real job applications

    - Present their journey, goals, and next steps

    - Celebrate progress and build confidence moving forward
